Blog / Weather data becomes real with live camera images

Weather forecasts tell people what the weather should be. A live image shows what it actually is. Windy.com is the ultimate global platform for anyone who depends on the elements—from pilots and mariners to windsurfers, paragliders, and outdoor adventurers. It combines advanced forecast models with a Webcams Map showing real-time views from crucial locations. No wonder this passionate audience generates tens of millions of monthly visits on both its website and mobile applications.
With our integration, Windy.com puts a camera you may already own in front of one of the world's largest weather audiences.
Most Axis cameras are installed for security or operational oversight: a hotel entrance, a ski slope, a marina, an airport apron. The CamStreamer App runs directly inside the camera, no extra hardware needed, and can send its images to Windy.com while the camera keeps doing its original job. It even runs alongside an existing live stream, for example to YouTube, at the same time.
The result:Your security camera becomes a public window onto your location, on a global weather map. A marketing channel hiding in equipment you have already paid for. |

The integration at a glanceWHAT: Your Axis camera on the Windy.com Webcams Map, showing a current preview and a time-lapse of your location. WHY: Tens of millions of monthly visitors, many of them exactly the people your location wants to reach. Each webcam credits its source with a link back to your website. HOW: Install the CamStreamer App on the camera (any older than 2011), add the Windy service, sign in with your Windy.com account, and enter the camera name and address. The preview appears within a day of the first image. |

If you are already using the CamStreamer App on your camera, connecting it to Windy is incredibly quick and easy:
The CamStreamer App does not send a live broadcast to Windy. It captures an image every 10 minutes and uploads it, and Windy shows the current preview plus a time-lapse built from the collected images. That matches how Windy.com works: the platform needs a current snapshot, not a video feed, and it lists Axis Communications among its recommended camera brands.
People open Windy to make decisions. Its own description lists professional pilots, paragliders, surfers, boaters/skippers, fishermen, and storm chasers, along with governments and rescue teams, plus travelers checking real conditions before they set out.
For a location owner, that is the point: these are your visitors. A surfer checking the break, a traveler deciding whether the mountain is clear today. When your camera is on the map, your location becomes part of that decision.
Windy describes the ideal webcam as outdoor, high resolution, with both ground and sky in frame, at a location that matters: a beach, lake, mountain, or airport. In practice that means coastal towns, ski areas, marinas, nature parks, harbors, and mountain destinations. Tens of thousands of weather webcams are already on the map.
Alongside your live image on the Windy map, you can display your own website URL. For hotels, ski resorts, marinas, or surf schools, this is a fantastic and free way to drive highly targeted local traffic directly to your site.
There is no need to worry about your internet bandwidth. Images are sent only once every 10 minutes, making the data consumption absolutely negligible.
Open the Webcams Map on Windy.com and browse the cameras that are already there; chances are a location like yours is one click away. The Windy Community covers everything about adding a webcam. And if your Axis camera doesn't have the CamStreamer App yet, get your license at camstreamer.com and put your location on the map today.
