Cloud-Based Crane Safety Monitoring with LONDON TOWER CRANES

01 Mar 2026 - 17:03

A cloud-based video monitoring solution powered by CamStreamer Cloud and AXIS Network Cameras helps LONDON TOWER CRANES improve operator visibility, enhance lifting safety, and centrally manage more than 100 crane-mounted cameras while minimizing on-site hardware.

About the project

LONDON TOWER CRANES is a UK-based provider of tower crane hire and lifting solutions for construction projects across London and the surrounding areas. The company operates in demanding urban environments where safety, precision, and operational efficiency are essential for every lifting operation.

Since 2024, LONDON TOWER CRANES has partnered with CamStreamer to deploy a cloud-based video monitoring system across its fleet. Today, more than 100 cameras installed on tower cranes are connected through CamStreamer Cloud, providing secure access to live video and recordings across multiple construction sites.

Tower crane operators often work with limited visibility of suspended loads and traditionally rely on personnel on the ground for navigation and load positioning. LONDON TOWER CRANES wanted to improve operator visibility, increase lifting safety, provide management with remote oversight when needed, record operations for incident investigations and compliance, and avoid installing additional recording hardware on construction sites.

Because construction sites are constantly changing environments, minimizing hardware, reducing installation complexity, and maintaining secure remote access were key requirements for the solution.

Technical Solution

The solution is built around CamStreamer Cloud, which centrally manages live video and recordings from every crane in the fleet.

On each crane, a durable AXIS Network Camera is mounted on the jib (crane arm) and positioned to face the suspended load. The camera streams live video directly to a tablet inside the operator's cabin, giving the operator a clear real-time view throughout the entire lifting operation.

At the same time, authorized site managers and supervisors can securely access the same live video remotely whenever additional operational oversight is required. All recordings are stored securely in CamStreamer Cloud, making them available for later review, audits, compliance documentation, and incident investigations.

Because the entire solution is cloud-based, there is no need for additional on-site recording hardware. This significantly reduces installation complexity while eliminating unnecessary equipment from already demanding construction environments.

The platform also provides role-based access control, allowing crane operators to access only the camera assigned to their crane while managers receive centralized visibility across the entire fleet. In addition, CamStreamer Cloud continuously monitors camera health and provides customizable notifications about device status, helping ensure reliable operation across all deployments.

The cameras used throughout the project are robust outdoor models from Axis Communications, designed to withstand the harsh conditions commonly found on construction sites.

The Result

The implementation has delivered measurable operational benefits for LONDON TOWER CRANES. Operators can now monitor suspended loads in real time, reducing their reliance on external guidance and minimizing risk during complex lifting operations. Improved visibility also speeds up load positioning and handling, increasing efficiency on site.

Secure cloud recordings provide objective evidence whenever an incident occurs while also allowing the company to demonstrate during inspections and audits that established procedures have been followed correctly.

Today, with more than 100 connected cameras, LONDON TOWER CRANES benefits from centralized cloud-based monitoring, a reduced hardware footprint on construction sites, enhanced operational safety, scalable deployment across projects, and transparent oversight for both operators and management.

By combining durable AXIS Network Cameras with CamStreamer Cloud, LONDON TOWER CRANES has modernized crane safety without increasing on-site complexity. The solution supports safer lifting operations, better accountability, and more efficient project delivery—all within a scalable cloud environment.
