A secure livestreaming solution powered by CamStreamer App helps first responders improve communication, situational awareness, and decision-making by delivering live video from emergency vehicles directly to command centers.
Effective communication is one of the most critical factors during accidents and emergency situations. Firefighters, rescue teams, and police officers traditionally rely on radio communication to report information back to their operational command centers. However, in the first moments of an incident, when multiple decisions must be made quickly, communicating every important detail over the radio can be challenging.
To address this issue, the Danish company Incendium developed a solution that uses live video to improve communication during emergency response. By combining CamStreamer App with the IncidentShare platform, Incendium enables first responders to securely stream live video from the scene of an incident, helping command centers and responding units gain a better understanding of the situation and make faster, better-informed decisions.
"It can be difficult to get all of the important information out quickly in the initial chaotic phase of any incident since many decisions have to be made fast and reporting back on the radio then becomes secondary."
– Asger Plaehn, Head of Sales, Incendium
The solution is installed directly in incident command vehicles using AXIS P12 Mk II and AXIS P12M20 Network Cameras equipped with CamStreamer App. Cameras can be mounted in the rear hatch, on the windshield, dashboard, or roof of the vehicle, providing live video from multiple perspectives throughout the entire incident.
Streaming is automatically initiated through an I/O module, allowing the camera to begin broadcasting as soon as predefined conditions are met. CamStreamer App runs directly inside the AXIS camera and can be configured to start streaming automatically whenever the vehicle is started or when the camera connects to the internet, eliminating the need for manual intervention.
Using the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol, the live video is securely transmitted with low latency to the IncidentShare platform, where it is immediately available to the operational command center. The platform is always ready to accept incoming streams, eliminating the need to prepare an ingestion server before an incident, while automatically accepting new stream keys whenever required.
As soon as streaming begins, Incendium servers automatically start recording the incoming video. The live video can be viewed in real time by all units involved in the incident through a secure web browser or mobile application. In addition to live monitoring, the platform allows important moments to be archived, recordings to be downloaded, and videos to be shared for evidence, post-incident evaluation, or operational training.
"The streaming of images in real time allows the incident commander to immediately share important information about the extent and nature of an accident, including information that may be difficult to communicate via radio. The internal operations center gets a good overview and information to allow them to act quickly."
– Asger Plaehn, Head of Sales, Incendium
Today, the solution is primarily used by firefighting units in Denmark and Norway, helping improve communication between incident commanders and operational control centers during emergency response.
By providing secure, low-latency live video from the scene, the system enables rescue teams to assess situations more accurately, coordinate resources more effectively, and restore affected locations as quickly as possible. This is particularly valuable in incidents involving road closures, damaged infrastructure, or other situations that significantly impact the public.
The combination of CamStreamer App and IncidentShare also provides a reliable platform for video documentation and post-incident analysis. Automatic recording, secure video sharing, and archived footage support evidence collection, operational evaluations, and future training activities.
According to Incendium, secure livestreaming solutions will continue to play an increasingly important role for first responders. By combining CamStreamer App with the IncidentShare platform, emergency services gain a scalable solution that improves communication during incidents while supporting long-term operational development.
