Description

This is the fourth year for the Vermilion Lake Association's Live LoonCam, positioned on a post in the water and paired with a parabolic mic. It's at an undisclosed location on the 40-mile-long lake about an hour and a half north of Duluth, Minnesota. A pair of loons has built a nest on a small rocky island, their second attempt this summer to bring a chick into the world. Dangerous high waters and attacks by mink claimed the first two eggs in June, 2024 but the loons are trying again.

Technical solution

This robust, outdoor-ready camera is ideal for a variety of surveillance scenarios. Available with a wide or tele lens, it offers excellent image quality, advanced analytics based on deep learning on the edge, and built-in cybersecurity features. This fully featured camera delivers excellent image quality regardless of the light conditions. It offers 2 MP resolution at a frame rate of up to 60 fps. Thanks to Lightfinder 2.0 and Forensic WDR, it delivers true colors and great forensic detail in challenging light or near darkness. OptimizedIR enables surveillance in total darkness up to 40 m (131 ft) without the need for extra lighting. And motion-adaptive exposure reduces the motion blur from approaching or nearby objects.
