Asters breeding center for vultures, France

Welcome to Asters! Asters runs the only French breeding center for bearded vultures. It is a part of the EEP (European Endangered Species Program) network with 4 other specialized breeding centers and about 40 zoos under the responsibility of the Vulture Conservation Foundation. Currently, Louise and Neige are among the 7 birds living in the center. Louise was born in 2010 in the Plock zoo in Poland. It is an adult bird, sexual maturity in the vulture is acquired at the age of 7-8 years. Louise is recognizable by her discolored head and torso, as well as her back feathers and slate-gray wings. The bird with darker plumage is a male named Snow, born in 2015 in the Torreferrusa zoo in Spain. The difference in plumage color in bearded vultures does not come from sex but from their age.
