Church Livestreaming Made Simple with Holy Spirit Catholic Church

07 Jul 2022 - 18:07

A tailored livestreaming solution powered by CamStreamer App helps Holy Spirit Catholic Church broadcast services with a simple, user-friendly workflow, making worship accessible to parishioners who cannot attend in person.

About the project

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Atlanta, Georgia, sought to expand its livestreaming capabilities to better serve parishioners who were unable to attend Mass due to illness, quarantine, or social distancing measures.

The church's goal was to implement a reliable and easy-to-operate livestreaming solution that could be managed by church staff and volunteers without requiring specialized broadcasting knowledge. To meet these requirements, Southeast Network Specialists, LLC designed a custom solution built around CamStreamer App.

"The task was clear. The church wanted to have a user-friendly solution to broadcast online."

– William A. Oppermann, Southeast Network Specialists, LLC

Technical Solution

The installation consists of two AXIS V5915 PTZ Network Cameras—one located in the main church and the other in the chapel. The cameras provide Full HD 1080p video, 30× optical zoom, SDI and HDMI outputs, and professional XLR audio inputs, while receiving high-quality audio directly from the church sound system.

Each camera runs CamStreamer App, enabling simultaneous livestreaming to both Vimeo and Facebook without requiring an external streaming computer.

Because the installation includes two PTZ cameras, one of the project's main challenges was creating a simple way for church staff and volunteers to manage the livestream. To solve this, Southeast Network Specialists developed a dedicated web interface with large, easy-to-use control buttons. The interface runs on an iPad mounted inside the church and communicates directly with the cameras using the CamStreamer App API, allowing operators to switch camera positions and adjust viewing angles with a single touch.

To ensure secure operation, livestreaming is activated through a physical key switch, allowing only authorized personnel, such as the priest, to start or stop the broadcast.

The Result

The finished solution provides Holy Spirit Catholic Church with a discreet, reliable, and easy-to-operate livestreaming system that fully meets the needs of the parish. Staff and volunteers can manage broadcasts through a simple touch interface without the need for a dedicated production booth or extensive technical training.

"We particularly appreciated the CamStreamer App's well-documented API. It allows custom solutions to be built with reliability and ease. With the app onboard, the church can discreetly livestream with a small, single camera without the need for a production booth. That's what many customers want these days."

Looking ahead, Southeast Network Specialists sees additional opportunities to expand the solution by integrating CamOverlay App. This would allow operators to quickly display preloaded hymn lyrics, prayers, gospel readings, and other text overlays during live services, making broadcasts even more engaging and accessible for online viewers.
