About the project

Professional baseball broadcasts typically include animated graphics, live score information, multiple camera angles, and high-quality footage that benefits not only spectators but also coaches, analysts, and marketing teams. For smaller clubs, however, achieving this level of production often requires expensive broadcasting equipment, experienced operators, or dedicated television crews.

The Eagles Prague baseball club was looking for a simpler and more affordable solution that would allow them to enrich their livestreams with live in-game score information while keeping the production workflow easy to manage. The objective was to create a professional-looking broadcast using only two network cameras and without requiring a dedicated operator.

Technical Solution

The solution combines two AXIS Network Cameras running CamStreamer App and CamOverlay App. The main broadcast is produced by an AXIS P1365 Mk II Network Camera, while an AXIS M1125 Network Camera is dedicated to capturing the stadium scoreboard.

Using the picture-in-picture (PiP) functionality available in CamOverlay App, the scoreboard camera is displayed directly inside the main video stream. Configuration is straightforward and requires only the IP address and login credentials of the secondary camera to be entered into the overlay settings of the main broadcasting camera. Operators can then position and resize the PiP window as needed, creating a complete broadcast without additional production software or hardware.

Once configured, the entire setup operates automatically and no longer requires manual intervention during the match. The solution streams directly to YouTube Live while recordings can also be stored locally on the camera's SD card.

For permanent installations, AXIS Q-Series cameras, such as the AXIS Q3515-LVE, are recommended as the primary broadcasting camera thanks to their improved weather protection and higher audio quality.

The Result

The picture-in-picture solution proved to be both reliable and exceptionally easy to deploy. By combining CamStreamer App with CamOverlay App, Eagles Prague achieved a professional-looking baseball broadcast with integrated live score information using only two network cameras and without the need for a dedicated broadcast operator.

The simple setup significantly reduces production costs while making advanced livestreaming accessible to smaller sports clubs. Although originally implemented for baseball, the same approach can be easily adapted to other sporting events as well as transportation, surveillance, and many other applications where multiple video sources need to be combined into a single stream.
